My Story
Mom | Teacher | Advocate
I am a former classroom teacher (B.A., Elementary Education) with a passion to equip struggling readers for academic success through the Wilson Reading System, an Orton-Gillingham 12-step structured literacy program. I am also a trained Special Educational Advocate for families and students with learning differences, including 504 and Individual Education Plan (IEP) needs. Advocacy support includes working with parents and school team to ensure implementation of support needs, accommodations, and modifications. Due to the extensive time required for quality advocacy, I am currently advocating for current clients only. I will consider other case opportunities if my schedule allows.
I am also the parent of a gifted Dyslexic, now a post-college graduate employed as a senior data analyst. Although my son showed dyslexic tendencies from an early age, namely a fluency deficit, it took me ten years to get him diagnosed because he did well academically as an honor roll student. This journey has given me a personal perspective to help coach parents to become advocates for their children with learning differences. Equipping students to reach their academic potential is an attainable goal that can be reached through evidence-based Orton Gillingham intervention, together with an effective 504 or Individual Educational Plan (IEP).
I am trained in Wilson Reading System, Alphabetic Phonics, Orton-Gillingham, and Read Naturally.
